Any sites that require registration before a user can access materials, or which require an account with a proprietary vendor are not included in this list.
Early Landmarks of Syracuse (multiple formats): A book chronicling how the city of Syracuse grew, found on the Archive.org website.
Syracuse: Pictorial Works (multiple formats): A collection of vintage photographs of the city of Syracuse, found on the Archive.org website.
Reminiscences of Syracuse (multiple formats): Recollections of the city from T.C. Cheney, who was an early reporter for the Syracuse Herald Journal.
School Algebra by E.E. White (multiple
formats): This is one of the best
auxiliary textbooks available for Algebra
topics. White's descriptions of how to
handle certain types of problems is second to
none. Be aware that these books cover many
tasks now done with a calculator - such as
manually determining square roots and computing
logarithms using a table, so you will end up
skipping through parts of these older books.
Statistics: An Open Online Textbook
(HTML with PDF available): An Open Source
textbook on Statistics from the Connexions Open
Source Sharing program at Rice University.
Arithmetic by Samuel Hamilton: A
public domain textbook that focuses on the
basics of mathematics: topics range from
definitions of number and place values, to
fractions and decimals.
March & Wolff's Calculus (multiple formats): One of the 20th century's most widely used Calculus textbooks.
The New York State Common Core Mathematics Standards (pdf download): success begins with knowing what is expected of you, and how you will be evaluated.
Algebra by Webster Wells (multiple
formats): An excellent vintage Algebra
textbook from Webster Wells. Wells'
greatest strength was in offering huge arrays of
exercises for students to work through, and
accurate answer keys at the back of the book so
students can check their work.
Plane Geometry (multiple formats): A
classic geometry textbook which may prove very
useful to students who would like a supplement
to the text assigned by their school.
Anatomy & Physiology: An Open Online Textbook (HTML with PDF available): An Open Source textbook from the Connexions Open Source Sharing platform.
Experiments in Plant Hybridisation (sic) by Gregor Mendel (multiple formats): Gregor Mendel's original treatise on genotypes and heredity.
Rediscovering Biology (pdf): An Open-Source biology textbook offered by the Annenberg-Learner Foundation.
The Origin of Species by Charles
Darwin (multiple formats): The
original text of Darwin's work on natural
selection and animal evolution.
Mechanics by A.P. French (multiple
formats): Newtonian mechanics is the first
step in studying physics. (Verified
listing with copyright office at MIT - this
book is available on a "share-alike" basis and
