Job Hunters Bible A collection of articles and Internet resources designed to aid in the process of job hunting. The site is designed as a supplement to his book What Color is Your Parachute which is available for loan at the Baldwinsville Public Library.
Looking For a Job Provides links to information about finding employment, including assistance available from the Department of Labor.
New York State Department of Civil Service Provides information on Civil Service as it relates to employment with New York State Agencies and it includes exam announcements.
New York State Department of Labor The site provides information for job seekers, employees and employers including but not limited to finding a job, employment programs, employment law and the labor market in New York State.
Onondaga County Department of Civil Service Provides information on Civil Service within Onondaga County including exam announcements.
Syracuse Newspapers Job hunters can post resume, check job listings and link to other career resources.
Unemployment Assistance A New York State Department of Labor site. Broad categories include General Unemployment Information, Claims and Eligibility Deadlines, and Information for Employers. Information is available in ten languages in addition to English.

General Sources
The library subscribes to Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest. For access to ancestry.com you must visit a library as Ancestry does not sell remote access. However, the library also subscribes to Heritage Quest and it can be accessed in the library or from home with your library card and PI. These are treasure troves of genealogical information with links to sites all over the world.

Commercial Databases
The library subscribes to Ancestry Plus, which contains over 1.2 billion records in over 3,000 databases. Included in Ancestry Plus are the digitized images of the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 forward, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, and much more. Ancestry will not sell us remote access to the database thus you will need to come in to the library to use Ancestry Plus.
Heritage also has numerous genealogy records. It can be used in the library or from home with a library card and PIN.
Medicare Information
Medicare Main Medicare site for consumers and others. Use it for general information, answers to general questions and links to key applications. I.e. “extra help” assistance for lower income people, Medicare Drug Plan Finder.
Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services The federal agency that oversees both Medicaid and medicare.
Health Insurance Information, Counseling & Assistance Program (HIICAP) New York State’s site for HIICAP it describes key parts of this program. Provides links to other NYS (e.g. EPIC Rx program) and national sources.
Consumer Information
Give.org Before making charitable donations one can check the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance. The alliance collects and distributes information on hundreds of nonprofit organizations that solicit nationally or have national or international program services. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance never recommends one charity over another, and selects charities for evaluation based on the volume of donor inquiries about individual organizations. All local Better Business Bureaus in the United States disseminate Alliance educational materials. Local BBB's also report on organizations whose fund raising efforts are local in scope.
Upstate New York Better Business Bureau The Better Business Bureau provides marketplace information and dispute resolution services for the Syracuse, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Albany regions.
Consumer Product Safety Commission Official government site for consumer information. CPSC publishes seven RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. By subscribing to our feeds you can automatically receive updates on new recalls and podcasts

Board of Elections for Onondaga County The Onondaga County Board of Elections is a County Office, responsible for all federal, state, county, city and town elections in Onondaga County. The site contains board of election news, voter registration information, political calendar, candidate information, a list of polling places and maps outlining the political and election districts within Onondaga County.
Democratic National Committee Official site of the Democratic Party.
E-democracy.org A non-profit, non-partisan citizen-based project, whose mission is to improve participation in democracy through the use of information networks. Provides links to many sites related to the 2004 elections.
League Of Women Voters A nonpartisan political organiza tion, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Republican National Committee Official site of the Republican Party.
Vote Smart Dedicated to upholding the ideal of democracy and serving the American people with unbiased and accurate information
Vote 411 Launched by the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF) in October of 2006, VOTE411.org is a "one-stop-shop" for election related information. It provides nonpartisan information to the public with both general and state-specific information on various aspects of the election process.
